After graduating from St Andrews University, I qualified as a solicitor in 1987 at Speechly Bircham. After nine years at Druces & Attlee, I joined Gordon Dadds in 1999. My key practice areas are family and matrimonial law, specialising in divorce and family disputes, and in particular the financial ramifications of relationship breakdowns. I also have expertise in private children work. My principal aim is to try to resolve difficult and often intractable disputes quickly and fairly, and with the least possible damage to family relationships. Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my family, as well as shooting, playing tennis and golf.
What is your most interesting legal experience?
My most interesting legal experiences are the times I have seen judgments given in the High Court or the Court of Appeal. This is where you see the best legal minds in the country in action.
What is your best legal anecdote?
As a student I attended at the Magistrates Court on a case of indecent exposure. The defendant (who was particularly unprepossessing) was being cross-examined relatively fiercely by the prosecuting barrister as to his whereabouts on the date of the incident, which was the 12th August. He consistently claimed that he had no idea of his whereabouts, and the defending counsel lent across and in a stage whisper suggested to the prosecuting counsel that his client had 'probably been out shooting grouse'.
