I qualified as a solicitor in 1990, and specialise in banking law. I advise on financing and film tax structures including pre-production finance and production finance, and have acted for numerous banks and fundraisers. I have been the lead lawyer for banks and funds on films such as Alexander and Phantom of the Opera.
I have acted for both borrowers and banks on secured and unsecured lending over many asset classes. My expertise also include insolvency and the recovery of investments which have underperformed, in particular corporate rescue and turnaround work for SMEs. On the corporate side I have also been involved in many EIS fund raisings.
I was a main board director of the Turnaround Management Association in the UK for many years.
What is your greatest strenght?
The ability to understand in detail P&L and balance sheets and how they are prepared. This has been invaluable in both film financing and corporate turnaround work.
What is your most interesting legal experience?
Acting for a client who specializes in buying SME companies and being rung by that client as he was driving to the completion meeting, to ask how we would proceed as the seller had just passed away.
