I was appointed by Gordon Dadds in June 2016 to act as the firm’s Global and Government Adviser. As well as advising on governmental matters, I also play an active role in expanding Gordon Dadds’ international connections, with a particular focus on Africa and the Middle East.
Prior to joining the House of Lords in 2015, I spent 24 years as a Member of Parliament including 12 years in Cabinet as a Senior Minister, serving as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Energy Minister and Leader of the Commons. In 2007 I negotiated the end of the Northern Ireland conflict.
In my personal time I enjoy writing: I have authored twenty books to-date. I am also Visiting Professor at the University of South Wales and visiting Teacher at the Civil Service College.
